Magic & Miracles

Seeing this venue on an invitation gets people excited. It’s not just the jellybeans, whoopie pies and other smorgashboard of often forgotten favorites, events at The Mansion on O Street are experiences. “But I kind of feel like I ate the wrong cupcake in Alice and Wonderland,” said one of last night’s guests.

Well, any sweet tooth can tell you there’s no such thing as a wrong cupcake, but what is wrong is neglecting the needs of individuals in the city who need a chance to rectify their mistakes. Thursday night’s experiential event for Ready, Willing & Working was a benefit to help homeless and formerly incarcerated men to receive that second chance – training and work opportunities to break the cycle and reenter society as productive citizens.

Councilmen Jack Evans and Tommy Wells stopped in for brief visits, while Nicole Siobal, Patty Brosmer and Paul Pascal welcomed featured guest Kojo Nnamdi, hit the brazen buffet and bid on an one of the original DC Party Animals (painted elephants and donkeys that peppered the city streets since 2002).

Funds help beneficiaries – like one in attendance – to sign their very first rental leases and secure jobs with good wages. Not Alice’s rabbit hole… but this house does put things in a new perspective.

Great event. I didn't see Jack Evans though. But Tommy Wells was there all night and was one of the keynote speakers.
