Sipscapade: Crystal City’s Wine Walk

Comfortable walking shoes, a race bib, and a wine glass were the only pieces of equipment needed for wine enthusiasts to keep up with their New Year’s exercise resolutions.

The second annual Crystal City 1K Wine Walk benefitting the Washington Wine Academy took place in the Crystal City Shops on Saturday afternoon.  Young and old alike, some clad in their most festive athletic gear, walked the path through the mall, stopping at ten wine stations along the way. Multitaskers took advantage of the venue by squeezing in a little window shopping between hydration points.

Many stops featured tasty hors d’oeuvres provided by Jaleo Crystal City, Cabot, and Perfect Pita in compliment to the chosen wines.  Delicious libations from across the world, spanning from South Africa’s Jam Jar to Virginia’s Vint Hill craft winery, were featured for sipping.

The Synthetic Theater’s performers put on comedic mini-shows every half an hour, while other stations offered prizes from sponsors such as Carfreediet.com and Crystal City Wine Shop. And just like any other “race,” waterstations kept walkers well hydrated as they completed about half a mile of walking, socializing and critiquing wine along the way.

*Return to Crystal City next weekend, when the Shops put on their very first Beer Walk as well!
